All right, people. This is going to be short and sweet as it is already pret-ty late and I still have to piece together an oral presentation before I can call it a day and go lay my tired student body on my allegiant and unwavering memory foam mattress. (To whom it may concern: Thank you for inventing memory foam.)

The presentation will be a dissection of a short memoir-type feature article written by Abou Farman and published in Montreal-based Maisonneuve magazine. It’s called “The Persian Dub”. And while I’m not too sure what I have to say about it right this moment, I strongly recommend you go read it. As a quick teaser, let me just say it’s mainly about the way in which John Wayne westerns were dubbed in Farsi in pre-revolutionary Iran. Well worth a detour as you make your way from TMZ to Perez.

Today’s Song of the day is “Hey Baby” by Stephen Marley, featuring rapper Mos Def.

Jamaican reggae icon Bob Marley had thirteen kids: three with his wife Rita, two adopted from Rita’s previous relationships, and the remaining eight with separate women. Of all the sons who grew up to become artists and performers (David “Ziggy”, Julian, Stephen, Ky-mani and Damian “Junior Gong”), Stephen is my current favorite. Proof of his mastery is that this song, by some canny act of aural hypnosis, succeeds in making you want to believe that long distance relationships are the sweetest thing ever.
